look who’s back

Look who’s back. My little trip to Brenham was great. I really enjoyed the drive once we got off the interstate and a little south east of Abilene. You get into rolling hills with oak and pecan trees that are changing colors. I enjoyed the drive through the small towns looking at old courthouses and old homes. This time of year is really neat, everyone has their home decorated. If it has been thought of I think I saw it. Everything from Santa on a motorcycle to a Santa on a rocket. Some of the ranches have outdone themselves too.

I think I came down with Nettie’s crud Monday before I left. I wasn’t feeling all that great when I left here Tuesday morning. Tuesday night I was miserable. I tossed and turned all night. When I laid on my right side my nose would drain and when I laid on my left side my nose would stop up. Figure that one out. I felt like hammered dog crap and finally just got out of bed at 4:30 in the morning. Once I got everything hacked up I started feeling better and actually felt pretty good when the time came to go meet with the people at Artex. I’m sure after all the handshaking I did that there are a couple of Artex big wigs feeling bad right about now.

Why my boss picked this place to build his truck I’ll never know. It’s a nice place and they do good work but they are just as stubborn about making changes to what they build as the guys that I talked to in Ft. Worth last month. It was my understanding that they would modify the truck to your specs. If you keep insisting they will finally cave in and agree to do it.  At first it was I’m sorry we already have the body built we can’t make that change. We didn’t tell them to build it, they took it upon themselves to do that. Then it was it might take longer or cost more if that’s what you really want but we will run it by our engineers to see if it can be done. Anyway I’m looking forward to seeing the truck once it’s finished.

My trip home with the smoker wasn’t all that bad. He slept for the first 4 hours. Every time I stopped he would bail out and fire one up. I think we stopped a total of 4 times. I hope when it comes time to go back to get the truck that I will get to travel with someone else. We get along alright but were not what I would call traveling companions.
